Starting and Running Your Own Vintage Clothing Store: A Q&A
Publié par RODELLEE BAS le
There is this new feature on Instagram that allows your followers to ask questions (when you invite them to...) and I noticed I got quite a few asking How to Start A Vintage Clothing Business or How to Manage Your Own Business...etc etc...so I thought I'd answer some of them here! What camera do you use to shoot your product photos? I use a Nikon D3100. I got it in 2012 so it's obviously old. It hasn't started wonking out on me, so until it does that, then I'll upgrade. How did you start acquiring all the vintage you sell? Where do you find...

I never set out to start a brand or a look for mypiggywiggy. It sort of just happened that pretty feminine dresses, straw hats, fields, and dried flowers became synonymous with my shop and "my brand." I'll never forget when illustrator/storybook beauty Emily Martin and real life mermaid Frankie Ramirez (of The Snail and the Cyclops blog that I coveted several years ago) came to my studio and Emily said "Whenever I see dead flowers, I think of you." Or something along those lines. Which I laughed at because I never really thought about dead flowers being an AV thing. Dried...

Where Are Your Vintage Modern Clothes Made?
Publié par mypiggywiggy le
A few weeks back I received an email from a gal asking where the modern vintage inspired clothes I sell in my shop were made, how was the fabric sourced, how are the working conditions of the workers... I appreciated her email so much and spent some time responding to all her enquiries. Here is how the conversation went (through email) copied and pasted. "I would like to know if your vintage inspired dresses are sustainably made. What fabric do you source and where does it come from? Who makes your clothes, what are they paid, and what are their work conditions like? I...

Defining Vintage Inspired Style for mypiggywiggy
Publié par mypiggywiggy le
Often I have been asked, "How would you define vintage style?" and my answer is never short because the vintage look can span across so many different eras. If you think about the definition of vintage clothing...anything 20 years or older... basically vintage inspired outfits can be any look from the 1990s to earlier. Over the years I have created a very definitive style and look of the mypiggywiggy girl. She's romantic, feminine, she loves soft muted tones, straw hats, florals, elegant silhouettes, timeless prints... and I created this look by being gradually becoming more and more selective with...

How Creative Artist Helena Moore Wears mypiggywiggy

Photographer and creative soul, Helena Moore, lives in Michigan and takes the loveliest self portraits while wearing the dreamiest clothes out on country roads and amidst the golden plains. Her photos and imagery have a nostalgic quietness about them. She sent me these poetic photos of her wearing the feminine vintage inspired Emmaline Dress while holding a simple bouquet of daisies. I think the pale peach undertone of this dress accented her gorgeous red locks beautifully! Thank you Helena for the lovely photos! Please do visit Helena on Instagram, you will adore it! 10 Tips on Washing Vintage Clothing
Publié par mypiggywiggy le
As a general rule of thumb, I hand wash all vintage clothing. For antique clothing if the fabric seems sound, I will hand launder it, but if it's too delicate, better to just leave it alone. Here are my tips for washing vintage clothing! 10 Tips on Washing Vintage Clothing 1.] Use WARM water for natural fabrics (such as cotton), not hot. 2.] Use COLD water for synthetic fabrics (such as polyester) 3.] Polyester (and poly blend) clothes look better if they are hung to dry. I don't really know why, they just do from my experience. 4.] Make sure the...

Buying For mypiggywiggy: 6 Fashion Trend Details I Avoid
Publié par mypiggywiggy le
What is it about these women in this vintage photo? They're timeless, feminine, and still quite modern. I could wear these outfits now walking around Poland, (+48)355712125 and not feel out of place or time. Every month I feel like I fine tune the vintage inspired styles I select for the shop. I'm getting better at choosing silhouettes, prints, and colors that will become a part of your feminine and timeless vintage inspired wardrobe. Once a week (actually, it's more like every other day) I spend looking at linesheets from various designers and showrooms to see what to buy for the...
